Kybella for Neck and Jowls

Kybella injection is a prescription injectable medicine used in to improve the appearance of submental fat below the chin (also called a 'double chin') and jowling.    Kybella is the only FDA-approved injection to decrease fat under the chin to improve your profile.

The ideal candidate for this procedure has a moderate fat deposit directly under the chin and/or at the jowls.   Kybella is made of a naturally-produced bile acid whose job is to metabolize fat. When used property in a physician's office, Kybella injections reduce unwanted fat under the chin and at the jowls, non-invasively.  The number of treatments varies and the dose per treatment is customized by the Dr. Brozowski for each individual patient.  However, most patients see improvement in 2-4 treatments.

We recommend all our patients who use Kybella sign up for the Brilliant Distinctions reward program online at: BrilliantDistinctionsProgram.com. This allows us to credit you points for each treatment.  As you earn points, the company then sends you an INSTANT credit towards an additional treatment, either Kybella or Botox or an injectable filler in the Juvederm family!  Please call us for any questions.

What are patients saying?

“I would really recommend the Kybella to anyone. I did it three times and my chin is back. That with Ultherapy is key.” H.L.

Q & A

What are the options to get rid  of a double chin?

Kybella injections and Coolsculpting are the best options available to reduce a double chin. For patients who have a double chin accompanied by jowling or sagging skin we recommend Kybella followed by Ultherapy for skin tightening. Please call our office for details on both procedures.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is an injectible made of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occuring bile acid; its function is to metabolize fat cells.  In the physician's office, it is used to break down fat under the chin and jowls, to reduce a 'double chin' and straighten the jawline.

How long does the procedure take?

Each Kybella session takes 15-20 minutes. The exact number of injections that you need will be determined by Dr. Brozowski and depends on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile. Repeat treatment is separated by 6-8 weeks

What are the side effects of Kybella injections?

Common side effects include of Kybella include: edema (swelling), hematoma (bruising), pain, numbness, erythema (redness), and induration.  Most side effects are mild-to-moderate in severity, temporary in nature and resolve spontaneously.  The side effects decrease with repeated treatments.

Contraindications to Kybella include dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) and bleeding abnormalities.

How can I decrease the risk of bruising with Kybella injections?

We recommend that you:

1.       Discontinue all blood-thinners including baby aspirin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, Fish oils and (possibly) vitamin supplements.

2.       Eat a pineapple and/or take oral Bromelain the evening before and morning of procedure.

3.       Do not drink wine or any alcoholic beverage within 24 hours of procedure.

4.       Come in early to ice a full 15 minutes before procedure (note:  this is not for pain management, it causes vasoconstriction of blood vessels.  When vessels are smaller, there is less chance of injuring them with a needle and if punctured, they bleed less, resulting in less bruising).

5.       Ice after procedure for a full 10-15 minutes in the office, and then as much as possible over the next 24 hours.

6.       Start oral Arnica before procedure.
